You can plug guitar pickups straight into these.Įdit: for what its worth, my Taylor 712 is from like 1994 or something. If you plug a guitar pickup into a mic input you need to address the impedance mismatch with a DI or it will sound kinda rolled off, phasey and weak.Īn instrument input is a high impedance input with a built in preamp. You can plug microphones straight into these. A mic input is a low impedance input with a built in preamp. Many soundcards have things called mic inputs and instrument inputs. If you want to go into a line input, you need a preamp to boost the signal level and you need a DI box for impedance matching/bridging. Guitar pickups are usually high impedance, low output. You will have to boost the hell out of the level on your mixer, which causes a great deal of hiss. Microphones are normally low impedance, low output so you need a preamp before you can go into a line input or it will sound extremely quiet. I don't think you need a DI box or a preamp. Now you should get a second opinion on this because the only Taylor ce guitar I've played is a 214ce and that was a long time ago, but I'm 80-90% sure you can just plug it straight into a line input. This is a soundboard transducer and body mic. Taylor guitars with the "ce" designation have the expression system. Voila, zero latency direct recording into FL Studio's playlist. You just open up FL Studio's mixer, select your channel inputs, arm these channels, enable direct monitoring and mute the hardware inputs in your soundcard control panel. I record direct into FL Studio so theres no need for Audacity. The AT4040s/4033s also go into mic inputs with 48V phantom power. ![]() The K&K transducer goes into a mic input on an RME Fireface UFX set to instrument level and I use the gain from the onboard micstasy preamps to get a decent signal. The K&K has its own external preamp and the output impedance is not that high so it can go straight into a line input on a soundcard and its fine. I normally use AT4040s or AT4033s in addition to that. I have a Taylor 712 fitted with a K&K trinity mini soundboard transducer.
